There is a question which every Christian would do well to ask: “Day by day, who or what controls my life?” For many of us,the Lordship of Jesus is continually being challenged by ungodly controls that come from people, situations and even from within ourselves.

Control is the foremost motivation behind the spiritual battle that exists in the universe. The desire for authority, and the power to wield that authority, is the primary plan and purpose of Satan, the ruler of this world as Jesus calls him. This enemy of souls needs the participation of man to exercise that authority and bring about the disorder and destruction of God’s creation. He actively opposes this creation in rebelling against his Maker.

Our inherently sinful nature draws us naturally into the realm of control, through a desire to promote and protect ourselves, and to minimize the wounding that comes through relationships. Control which ignores the authority of Jesus brings considerable damage into the lives of all those affected. However, authority under the direction of Jesus brings radical restoration.

Ellel Ministries have had the opportunity over the last twenty years to minister to many people caught up in ungodly control. It has taught us to take seriously the clear message given on this subject in the Bible.

This book will seek to explain the principles we can learn there. Many of us have experienced the damage of wrong control over our lives, but equally we need to face the fact that many of us have learned to control others in a wrong way.

David Cross is the Regional Director for Ellel Ministries in Western Europe. He is based at Ellel Glyndley Manor. He qualifi ed as a civil engineer but developed many life skills in a most varied working
career, which included leading ski-tours in the Scottish Highlands.

Despite fulfi llment at work David found himself gradually more and more disillusioned with the ethos of “self suffi ciency” on which he had based his life up until that point. A change in direction came when he was converted in Hong Kong in the early 1980s and he eagerly began to follow Jesus. On
returning to the UK in 1984 he became an elder in the Church of Scotland. Then in 1993, he and his wife Denise joined Ellel Ministries. David’s clear and authoritative teaching from God’s Word has brought understanding and healing to many who have been confused and damaged by the ideologies of today’s world.
